Camming anonymously on Chaturbate: how to stay hard to recognise

Region blocking, the country flag setting, masks, avatars, recordings and your bio: what actually keeps you hard to find, and what the platform still knows about you.

For a lot of people thinking about camming, the real worry isn't the camera. It's the idea of a cousin, an ex or someone from work stumbling across the room. That fear is reasonable, and there's a fair amount you can do about it.

No setup makes you impossible to find, and we'd distrust anyone who says theirs does. What you can do is make it unlikely. Below are the Chaturbate settings that help, and the everyday habits that matter just as much. It all applies on GirlCamHub too, since it runs on the same platform. We checked the settings against Chaturbate's own creator guides and terms on 4 October 2026.

What the site knows, and what viewers see

To broadcast, you give the platform your legal name, a government ID and verification photos, and later your payment details. Those stay with the platform for verification and payouts and aren't part of your public profile, though the privacy policy says the ID records are kept for seven years after your content was last on the site. The same goes for any tax form you fill in; Chaturbate taxes for models explains what those ask for and why.

Viewers see something different: your username, your bio, your room, and whatever you say and show on camera. Almost everything below is about that second list.

A name that leads nowhere

Chaturbate's own advice is to pick a username that's different from the ones on your personal accounts. Go further than that. Don't reuse part of your real name, a nickname your friends use, your birthday or your town. Set the account up with an email address you use for nothing else.

If you promote yourself on social media, use separate accounts for it, never your personal ones, and don't follow your real friends from them. Platforms suggest people you may know based on contacts and connections, and that's an easy way to be spotted.

Block the places where people know you

In the Settings & Privacy tab under your broadcast window, you can block whole countries, and also regions or states. Viewers with an IP address in a blocked area can't get into your room at all, whether they're logged in or not.

It's the most useful single setting for this, but Chaturbate is upfront that location from an IP address isn't always right and that there are ways around it, a VPN being the obvious one. Block your country, or your state if you'd still like viewers from the rest of the country, and treat it as cutting down the risk rather than removing it.

Turn off your country flag

There's a newer setting in the same Broadcaster Settings section, labelled "Your country flag will be displayed on the homepage thumbnails." With it on, your flag shows on your thumbnail and your room can appear when viewers filter by country. With it off, your country isn't shown and you're left out of those filters.

Chaturbate points out that switching it off can make you a little harder to find. If privacy matters more to you than that, switch it off.

Your face: masks and avatars

You don't have to show your face. The privacy policy describes broadcasters who keep it hidden, for example with a mask. The catch is that the site may interrupt you now and then to ask for a selfie, to check you're still the verified adult, and those photos are kept with your verification records.

There's another option some performers use: an animated avatar that you control live, with motion capture or similar software. The guidelines allow these as long as a real person is operating them in real time. What isn't allowed is AI-generated or deepfake content that imitates real people, including you.

Hiding your face doesn't hide everything, though. Tattoos, birthmarks, a distinctive laugh and the inside of your home are all things people recognise. Cover or keep out of shot whatever someone who knows you would spot.

Your bio and room subject

Everything in your bio is public, including the age and location fields, so put nothing there you wouldn't show a stranger. A location like "Europe" or nothing at all is safer than your city. The terms don't allow links in your room subject or in the location field of your bio. Social links go in the Social Media section of your bio, and if you add any, make sure they're your performer accounts, not your personal ones.

Recordings

A lot of new performers don't realise that private shows are recorded by default. The recording goes to the viewer who paid for the show, who can keep watching it on the platform. You can turn this off at any time in your account settings, and if you're worried about being recognised, do it before your first private show.

The terms also warn that other members might record your broadcasts illegally and share them elsewhere. You can't fully stop that, but you can make it less attractive. Chaturbate suggests a watermark or your logo on the stream, which OBS can add, so copies carry your performer name. Some performers also use apps that hide the stream from viewers who aren't logged in or have no tokens, which can cut down on accounts that only come to record. If it does happen, getting leaked cam content taken down explains how to get copies removed, and Chaturbate offers performers a free takedown notice service too.

Gifts and wishlists

Plenty of viewers like sending gifts, and a wishlist is the usual way to let them. Chaturbate's advice is to have things delivered to a P.O. box or another address that isn't your home, and, if you use an Amazon wishlist, to check its settings so it doesn't show your full name and city.

If someone threatens to expose you

Doxing, or threatening to reveal someone's personal information, is against the community guidelines and can get the person permanently banned. Don't pay and don't negotiate. Save the messages, block the user and report them. Our guide to cam scams and sextortion goes through what to do step by step.

If it's weighing on you, Chaturbate works with Pineapple Support, which provides therapy and counselling to people in the adult industry, around the clock.

Before your first show

  1. Name and email A username and email address you've never used anywhere else.
  2. Region block Your country, or your state, blocked in Settings & Privacy.
  3. Country flag Switched off if you don't want your country shown.
  4. Recordings Private show recording turned off in your account settings, if you don't want recordings to exist.
  5. Bio Nothing true about your location, job or real name.
  6. Frame Nothing in shot that someone who knows you would recognise.

Questions people ask

If I block my country, can people there still see me?

Not through the site, as long as they're connecting from an IP address in that country. Someone using a VPN that puts them in another country could get round it, which is why region blocking works best alongside the other steps here.

Will my real name ever be shown to viewers?

Your legal name, ID and payment details go to the platform for verification and payouts, not into your public profile. What viewers see is the username and bio you choose.

Ready to try it?

Chaturbate and GirlCamHub are the same platform with the same settings, so you can sign up on either. GoGirlCam is run by GirlCamHub's owner, and we're paid when a performer who joins through our button goes on to earn. If you've decided to try it, the button below opens the broadcaster sign-up, and how to become a Chaturbate model covers the rest of what to know first.
