Two different things you're paying for

On a subscription site such as OnlyFans, you pay a creator for access to what they post. Usually that means a monthly fee, with optional tips and pay-per-view messages on top. It works a lot like following someone on social media, except there's a paywall in front of the feed.

On a live cam site you mostly pay for moments. A tip during a live show, a few minutes of a private show, a ticket for a one-off event. Watching the public room itself costs nothing.

How the money works

With a subscription, you know the headline price before you start. You pay it every month until you cancel, which is convenient and also the catch, because subscriptions are easy to forget about. The extras are where costs creep up: locked messages and posts that cost more on top of what you're already paying.

On a cam site the room is free and nothing renews. Instead you buy tokens in advance and spend them in small amounts while something is happening in front of you. That makes it cheap to dip in and out, and it also makes it easy to spend more than you meant to, because a price in tokens doesn't feel like money in the moment. Neither model is cheaper as a rule. It depends entirely on how you use it.

Live versus recorded

Cam shows happen now. They aren't scripted, you can't rewind them, and what you see depends on who happens to be broadcasting when you log on. That unpredictability is a big part of the appeal for some people and a frustration for others, especially if the performer you like keeps a schedule that doesn't match yours.

Subscription sites are mostly the opposite: posts you can view whenever you like, often with an archive going back months. Some creators also stream live there, but the core of the product is content you can come back to.

How much you can interact

This is where live cams stand out. In a public room you can chat with the performer and everyone else as it happens, and the performer reacts in real time, whether to messages, to tips or to the room as a whole. A private show gives you one-on-one attention, and with cam2cam the performer can see you as well.

On a subscription site, interaction mostly means messages. They can be personal, but they're slower and there's no shared room. If you want to feel part of something happening live, cams do that and subscriptions largely don't.

Privacy

On both, your username is what creators and other users see, so the same advice applies: pick one that has nothing to do with your real name, and use a separate email address. The difference is on your statement. A subscription shows up as a charge every month for as long as it runs, while token purchases show up only when you top up. Leaks and look-alikes

Both kinds of site have a cloud of copies around them: pages promising "leaked" subscription content, and "free" mirrors of cam rooms. They're a common source of malware and fake virus warnings, and anything leaked was taken from a creator without their consent. If you want to see what's happening right now, like the idea of chatting with a performer and a room full of people, and want to be able to look around without paying, live cams are the better fit. Start with watching cams for free and spend nothing until you know what you enjoy.

If there's one particular creator you like and you want their posts whenever it suits you, a subscription makes more sense. Just keep a list of what you're subscribed to and check it every month.
