Chaturbate age verification for models: which IDs work and why they get declined

Before you can broadcast on Chaturbate, you have to prove you're an adult. When your ID is one they accept and the photo is clear, it's quick. When it's declined, Chaturbate says it's because the ID wasn't an accepted type or couldn't be read, and both are easy to avoid.

The order it happens in

1. Create your account Pick a username you don't use anywhere else. Chaturbate suggests this itself, for your privacy.
2. Sign the agreement The first step of verification is reading and signing the Independent Broadcaster Agreement. Everyone who'll broadcast on the account signs it.
3. Upload your ID A clear photo or scan of a valid government-issued ID.
4. Take the selfie A photo of you, with only your face in the frame.
5. Wait for the email You're told by email when you're approved.

IDs that work, and IDs that don't

Chaturbate accepts passports, driving licences and other plastic government-issued ID cards. It doesn't accept expired IDs, temporary or permit IDs, military IDs, birth certificates, or anything handwritten or drawn.

Whatever you use has to show four things clearly: your date of birth, a photo of you that's recognisable, the ID number and your legal name. The image has to be sharp enough that every bit of text on the card can be read, and it can't be edited in any way. That includes filters and beauty apps, not just obvious edits.

Getting the photos right first time

None of this is complicated, and getting it right saves you a second attempt:

• Lay the ID flat on a plain, dark surface and photograph it in daylight or good room light, without the flash. Flash puts glare on a plastic card, and glare can hide the text.
• Get all four corners in the frame and hold the phone straight above the card, not at an angle.
• Before you upload it, zoom in on the photo. If you can't read the small print, neither can they.
• For the selfie, show only your face. Chaturbate asks you not to hold your ID up next to it.

If your verification is declined

According to the academy, a declined ID was either a type they don't accept or not legible enough. Either way, the fix is to upload again: a clearer photo of the same ID, or a different ID from the accepted list. Check the expiry date as well; an ID that ran out last month counts as expired.

What happens to your ID afterwards

Your ID and verification images aren't shown on your profile. The privacy policy says they're kept for seven years after your content was last on the site.

If you broadcast with your face hidden, for example with a mask, expect to be asked for a selfie from time to time. It's how the site checks that the person on camera is still the adult who was verified. Camming anonymously on Chaturbate covers the rest of the privacy side.

If someone else will be on camera

This is where people get caught out. Every person who appears on your stream has to be age-verified, either on your account or as a guest account linked to yours. Streaming with someone who isn't can cost you your own verification, or get the account suspended or closed.

If the other person already broadcasts on Chaturbate, you can add them as a guest. Add their username under Guest Accounts and ask them to add yours on their side. It shows as pending until they do, and they won't get a notification about it, so message them.

If they're new, they have to verify their age and sign the agreement before they appear. Chaturbate says approval comes by email and can take up to 30 minutes, and asks you not to start streaming together until it arrives.

You can have up to five guest accounts linked at once, and up to five people on camera. Blood relatives can't share an account or appear together, and you shouldn't go live at all if someone unverified could walk into the room.

Verification and getting paid

The same check matters for your money. Chaturbate only pays performers who are verified and have signed the agreement, and if the payments go to someone else's account, that person has to verify and sign too.
