Chaturbate vs OnlyFans for creators: the cut, the payouts and finding fans
What each platform keeps from what fans pay, how the money arrives, how payouts work and why where your first fans come from matters more than the headline cut.
If you're thinking about making money as a creator, you'll run into this question early: Chaturbate or OnlyFans? They're often mentioned in the same breath, but they're different businesses. Chaturbate is live, with public rooms anyone can wander into. OnlyFans is built around monthly subscriptions to content you post. Many performers end up using both, for different jobs.
This guide compares them from the creator's side: what each platform keeps from what fans pay, how the money comes in, how payouts work, and the question that matters more than any of those, which is where your first fans come from. It uses Chaturbate's Creator Academy, published accounts from performers and the figures we could verify, checked on 29 October 2026. GirlCamHub runs on Chaturbate, so the Chaturbate side applies to both.
What each platform keeps
OnlyFans's split is easy to quote: creators are paid 80% of what fans pay and the company keeps 20%.
Chaturbate works in tokens, which makes its cut less obvious. Viewers buy tokens in packages, and on the purchase page the price ran from about 14 cents a token in the smallest card package (50 tokens for $6.99) to about 8 cents in the largest (1,000 for $79.99). Performers receive 5 US cents for every token, whatever the viewer paid. So of each dollar a viewer spends, the performer ends up with somewhere between roughly a third and three-fifths, depending on how that viewer bought their tokens.
| Platform | How fans pay | What the creator gets |
|---|---|---|
| OnlyFans | Subscriptions, tips and pay-per-view, in dollars | 80% of what fans pay |
| Chaturbate | Tokens bought in packages | 5 US cents per token, about a third to three-fifths of what the fan paid |
On the headline number, OnlyFans looks better. But the cut only matters once somebody is paying you, and that's where the two platforms really differ.
Where your first fans come from
On Chaturbate, a public show is free for anyone to watch. As long as your room is listed on the home page, strangers browsing for something to watch can land in it, and the Creator Academy describes public shows as the way to get discovered by more viewers. You can also opt in to being promoted on network sites. You start with a room people can find, even if nobody has heard of you.
OnlyFans works the other way round: people subscribe to someone they already want to see, so most of the effort of finding subscribers happens elsewhere, on your own social media. The performers who write about this tend to describe camming as the front door. Asiri Ocean, writing for XBIZ, said the hardest part is getting people into your world in the first place, and that once they're in, keeping them is easier. The cam model Cara told XBIZ that Chaturbate is her favourite platform precisely because it pushes public shows and lets you build a community around your room.
That's why a lower share of a fan's dollar can still be the better deal when you're starting from zero: a bigger cut of nothing is still nothing. How to get viewers on Chaturbate covers how tags, your room subject and a regular schedule bring those first viewers in.
How the money comes in
On Chaturbate you can earn from several directions at once:
- Tips during your public show, usually organised with a tip menu and goals.
- Private shows, charged per minute at a rate you set, with a minimum length.
- Ticket shows, run through an app, where viewers buy a ticket to a hidden show.
- A fan club, priced anywhere from 50 to 2,500 tokens a month, which works much like a subscription inside Chaturbate.
On OnlyFans, fans pay through monthly subscriptions, one-off tips and pay-per-view content.
The practical difference is time. Camming income happens while you're live, so it depends on showing up on a schedule; the Creator Academy's advice is to post your schedule and stick to it. Subscription content can be made when it suits you, but needs a steady flow of new posts to keep people subscribed.
Getting paid
Chaturbate's payout options are spelled out in its Creator Academy: semi-monthly or daily payouts, by methods including Paxum, CosmoPayment, SEPA, checks, crypto and direct deposit, most with a $50 minimum. Pay periods run from the 1st to the 15th and from the 16th to the end of the month, and payments go out within seven business days. How Chaturbate pays models has every method with its fee.
We couldn't check OnlyFans's current payout terms directly for this guide, so look at its own creator terms before relying on any figure. One thing on the record is that OnlyFans has changed the rules on creators before: after a wave of chargebacks in 2020 it limited how much creators could charge and how quickly they could be paid, and in August 2021 it announced a ban on explicit content before reversing it days later.
Using both
You don't have to choose for good. Plenty of established performers use a cam room to meet new fans and a subscription page to keep the most loyal ones. Asiri Ocean, for example, runs fan clubs on Chaturbate alongside an OnlyFans with behind-the-scenes content.
If you do run both, the Creator Academy's advice on social media applies to each: use the same name everywhere so fans can find you, put your room link in your bios and in every "I'm live" post, and announce when you go online so followers are notified. Chaturbate's own fan club is also worth a look before you send regulars elsewhere, since it keeps them in the room where they found you; Chaturbate fan clubs for models explains how it works.
Questions creators ask
Which one pays more?
Nobody can honestly promise you a figure on either. OnlyFans keeps a smaller share of each payment, but Chaturbate gives you a public room strangers can find. What you take home depends far more on how many people you reach and how often you show up than on the platform's cut.
Can I stay anonymous on either?
Any platform that pays you will need to verify who you are, but what viewers see is up to you. On the Chaturbate side, camming anonymously on Chaturbate covers the settings and habits that keep your identity out of the room.
Do I need followers before I start camming?
No. That's the main advantage of a live public room: the site's own list of live rooms brings in viewers who have never heard of you.
Where this fits
If you're leaning towards camming, how to become a Chaturbate model covers sign-up and ID, and cam model setup for beginners covers the equipment.
Chaturbate and GirlCamHub share the same rooms, payouts and rules, so you can sign up as a broadcaster on either. To be clear about our interest: GoGirlCam has the same owner as GirlCamHub, and we receive a referral fee if a performer who joins through our button goes on to earn. The button below opens the broadcaster sign-up.
