Chaturbate username colors: what gray, blue, purple and green mean
Why some names in a Chaturbate chat are gray and others blue, purple or green, how much tipping each color takes, why rooms treat them differently and how to tone yours down.
Spend a minute in any Chaturbate chat and you'll notice the names come in different colors. Some are gray, some light or dark blue, a few purple, and the odd one green. It isn't decoration. Each color tells the performer, and everyone else in the room, roughly how much that person has tipped lately, and many rooms treat the colors differently.
We checked how the colors are defined on 23 October 2026, using the chat settings and user cards on GirlCamHub, which runs on Chaturbate with the same chat, plus the platform's documentation for room apps and its guide for performers. Here is what each one means and what it changes for you.
The colors at a glance
| Color | What it means | What it takes |
|---|---|---|
| Gray | Signed in, no tokens bought | A free account |
| Light blue | Owns or has bought tokens | Buying tokens at any point |
| Dark blue | Tipped recently | 50 or more tokens tipped in the past two weeks |
| Light purple | Tipped a lot recently | 250 or more tokens in the past two weeks |
| Dark purple | Tipped tons recently | 1,000 or more tokens in the past two weeks |
| Green | Fan club member | Joining that performer's fan club |
The thresholds come straight from the site. Its chat settings list "Dark Blue (Tipped 50 recently)" and the purple tiers in the same way, and clicking a name opens a card that spells out "50+ tokens in the past 2 weeks" and so on. Performers and moderators get their own labels on those cards too.
Visitors who haven't signed up at all don't appear by name, because chatting needs an account. Accounts are free, so plenty of the names you'll see in a busy room are gray.
Blue and purple fade, green doesn't
The tipping colors are about the past two weeks, not your whole history. Someone who tipped 300 tokens last week is light purple now and will drift back down if they stop. That's deliberate: the colors tell a performer who is spending in their rooms at the moment, not who used to.
Light blue is the exception. It covers anyone who owns tokens or has bought them before, so it says very little about recent spending. The author of one popular ticket show app makes the same point from the performer's side: many light blues bought tokens once and have almost none left.
Green works differently again. Chaturbate's guide for performers says every fan club member automatically gets a green username in that performer's chat, so the performer can spot their regulars at a glance. It only shows in the rooms whose fan clubs you've joined. Chaturbate fan clubs explained covers what else membership gets you.
Why rooms treat the colors differently
Room apps can see the same information. The documentation for app writers lists, for every chat message, whether the sender has tokens, whether they're a dark blue, a purple or a dark purple, and whether they're in the fan club or a moderator. Performers use that to shape their rooms, and you'll run into the results:
- Gray chat may be switched off. A lot of rooms only let people with tokens type, especially during busy shows. The simple Ticket Show app, for example, stops people without tokens from chatting by default, and Ticket Show - Automated mutes them for the whole show. If your messages aren't appearing, this is usually why; why you can't chat on Chaturbate goes through the other reasons.
- Entry announcements. The chat settings let anyone, performers included, choose whose arrivals get announced: all registered users, only moderators, fans and people with tokens, or fewer still. In a busy room, a performer may only see the colored names come in.
- Ticket shows look for buyers. The author of Ticket Show - Automated tells performers that most tickets are bought by dark blues, purples and fan club members, which is why performers often pay closer attention to those names.
None of this means a gray name is unwelcome. Most performers are glad of a friendly, polite chatter of any color, and plenty of regulars started out gray. Cam room etiquette covers how to fit into a room whatever your color.
Keeping a lower profile
If you'd rather not stand out, you don't have to. In a room's chat settings there's a section called Users Settings with an option named Highest Token Color. You pick the highest shade other people will see next to your name, from dark purple down to light blue, so a heavy tipper can choose to appear as an ordinary light blue. Your actual tips still count; only the color changes.
The tip itself is still visible, though. Tip notifications usually show the username, so your name stays the main thing linking you to what you spend, unless you send the tip anonymously; tipping anonymously on Chaturbate covers how that works. Keeping your cam account private explains how to choose a username that isn't connected to you.
What the top color costs
It's easy to get competitive about colors, so it's worth knowing what they cost. Dark purple means tipping at least 1,000 tokens in two weeks. On GirlCamHub's purchase page, the best card price was 1,000 tokens for $79.99, and smaller packages cost more per token, so staying dark purple costs at least about $80 every two weeks. Light purple, at 250 tokens, works out at roughly $20 to $35 depending on the package you buy.
A color is not a reason to spend. If you notice yourself tipping to keep a shade rather than because you enjoyed the show, setting a cam budget is a good next read, and how to buy Chaturbate tokens shows which packages give the best price.
Questions people ask
Why is my name gray when I've signed up?
Gray means an account that hasn't bought tokens. Once you buy some, you move up to light blue.
How long does a color last?
The blue and purple tiers count tips from the past two weeks, so they fall back if you stop tipping. Light blue stays once you've bought tokens, and green lasts as long as your fan club membership.
Can I be green in one room and blue in another?
Yes. Green only shows in the chat of a performer whose fan club you've joined. In other rooms you'll see your usual color.
